AIR21 COACH Bo Perasol is apologetic talking about his outburst late in the third period of their 97-88 win over the San Miguel Beermen in Game 1 of their best-of-three wildcard series Sunday night.
But he’s willing to do it again when the situation merits it.
"If it will inspire the team then I’ll do it again," Perasol said.
He was thrown out for the first time in his young coaching career after getting two straight technical fouls for excessive complaining and entering the court to confront the referee over a loose ball foul called on Express forward Ranidel De Ocampo.
The Express gun for a quarterfinal seat today in the San Mig Coffee 2005-06 PBA Fiesta Conference when they meet the Beermen in Game 2 of their short series at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Alaska Aces eye the same reward as they face the Sta. Lucia Realtors in the nightcap. The Aces won a double-overtime thriller, 108-104, in Game 1 of their own series.
Another win by the Express will set them up for a best-of-five quarterfinal duel with the Talk ‘N Text Phone Pals. The Aces will battle the Red Bull Barako in the quarters if they prevail again.
Since Perasol doesn’t want a Game 3, they have to play with the same fire and passion to end the series.
"We have to finish it on Wednesday. It’s tough to beat a champion team like San Miguel in a knockout match," he said.
Perasol also emphasized that they have to intensify their running attack to complete their date with destiny.
"There’s no way we could beat the Beermen with set plays. We have to run."
The Beermen did a nice job with their transition defense on Game 1, limiting the Express edge on fast break points to only three, 9-6.
But the Express made up for it with terrific outside shooting. They converted 11-of-26 from the three-point territory for a high 42.3%. It included a four-point play from Ronald Tubid that sparked their endgame run.
Beermen coach Jong Uichico believes his team doesn’t have to do something special to beat the Express.
"I’m happy with the way we played last Sunday considering that it’s our third game in as many nights," said Uichico. "The breaks just went their way in the end."
