Richard defends Angel

Angel Locsin was again teary-eyed during the press conference of her and Richard Gutierrez’s pre-Valentine movie "I Will Always Love You" held Thursday night at the Regal Films’ office in Valencia St., Quezon City.

This time around though, she became emotional not because of the intrigues hurled her way, but because she was overwhelmingly touched by the support and protection her leading man and real life best friend Richard Gutierrez has shown her during the press conference. Richard defended her against the recent controversies that have befallen her.

"I’m touched by what Richard said," she demurely announced. "Despite the intrigues, the reason I’m still happy is because of people like him. Natutuwa ako sa mga support ng mga tao at sa mga pagmamahal nila sa akin especially at times when I’m really down. I still believe that all problems have solutions."

When asked about her relationship with her current manager, she opted not to comment anymore. She admitted that some people were already hurt a lot and she felt bad about how things are turning out. She hopes to put a stop on it all by keeping quiet. She would like to resolve her problems as quiet and amiable as possible.

As for Richard, the actor shared that on their first movie "Let The Love Begin," he was the target of bad publicity but he surfaced the winner especially with the film’s grossing over P100 million! He thought it funny that with their second movie, "I Will Always Love You," it’s Angel who’s now the focus of intrigues. The actor expressed optimism that his partner will survive the controversies.

"There’s something better for the two of us to do. Yung mga taong hindi kanaisnais di dapat pinapansin. God will always help us in our obstacles in life. Angel naman is a strong person so I know she’ll be okay. Yung mga masasamang tao dapat hindi pinapansin," voiced out Richard.

It wasn’t only during the press conference that Richard showed care for her loveteam mate. When Angel got sick during their shooting in San Francisco, he with the rest of their cast and crew took care of the actress. The actor said that he made sure Angel was kept warm and that she regularly took her medicine. One of the anecdotes during that time was that he caught the actress hiding her medicine and not taking them.

"That only happened once but he caught me," Angel laughed. "Richard’s really a caring person and he was really there for me. He is still a special person in my life."

Though their on-screen romance remains an on-screen romance (Angel has Oyo Boy Sotto while Richard has Georgina Wilson in real life) their friendship and closeness are still deemed by their fans as a possibility for a future romance. The actors stressed that they are not pressured by their screen tandem since it still works. As friends they know where they stand and have no malice in their relationship.

But Richard admitted that he did say that he will always love Angel in the past. The result of his remark caused Angel to blush and more press poking on the possibility of them becoming an item in real life.

"I don’t have to disclose the details, but I said that...nasa panahon naman kasi yan. May tamang panahon," Richard explained further as to why nothing happened.

He added that at the moment they don’t place any level or degree to their friendship.

"What’s important is that we are happy when we work together. We have a good synergy at wala kaming itinatago from each other. We’re very open...kung kinikilig kami sa isa’t isa, sa amin na lang yun."

The scenes for which their fans will surely scream in delight in "I Will Always Love You" will be their kissing scenes which are many.

"They are not torrid or bastos. May kurot lang sa puso...we still get nervous in a kissing scene and we talk about how we’re going about it before we shoot," said Angel.

"Yung kissing scenes hindi dapat pagselosan kasi it’s just work for us. We were just acting what we’re supposed to do for our roles. Naiintindihan naman nila kami," remarked Richard.

From Regal Entertainment and GMA Films, "I Will Always Love You" tackles the timeless tale of a rich boy falling in love with a poor girl. And the movie will take moviegoers from Manila to San Francisco as the main characters’, Justine (Richard) and Cecile (Angel), romance unfolds. The popular tourist spots of San Francisco add visual appeal as they serve as backdrops to the couple’s love story. They are Golden Gate, Palace of Fine Arts, Union Square, Foster City Lake and Fisherman’s Wharf to mention a few.

"I Will Always Love You" is directed by Mac Alejandre who also helmed "Let The Love Begin." Directors of photography are Lee Meily and Rolly Manuel with Egay Littaua as production designer.

Also in the film are Jean Garcia, Lloyd Samartino, Bianca King, Berwin Meily, Tuesday Vargas and James Blanco. "I Will Always Love You" is slated for a Feb. 8 release nationwide.

Director Mac Alejandre has a simple explanation for the wishful thinking of fans that the Richard-Angel love team may blossom into a real-life romance, "They have magic and chemistry. They also have mystery. The Richard-Angel love team is a franchise and we are very hopeful that this franchise prospers. Mas matutuwa ang fans nila sa ‘I Will Always Love You!’"
