While other cities in the country commemorate the feast day of the Sto. Niño with merry-making and street parties this month, the Pasig City government has thought up of a unique way of paying homage to their patron by hosting a museum exhibit that features the Holy Child Jesus in His different forms and manifestations.
Catholic devotees to the Holy Child Jesus can now visit the Pasig City Museum to view the different images of the Sto. Niño. With more than 70 different statues of the Child Jesus on display, the exhibit is the biggest collection of Sto. Niño images in the country today.
Among the different versions of the Child Jesus currently on display are the Bambino Hesus de Pasig, Sto. Niño de Cebu, Sto. Niño de Amor, Sto. Niño de Suerte, Sto. Niño de Palaboy, Sto. Niño de Gracia, Sto. Niño de Caballero, Sto. Niño ng Magsasaka and Sto. Niño ng Mangingisda.
Most of the pieces were loaned to the Museum by prominent Pasigueños and members of the Congregacion del Santissimo Nombre de Niño Hesus.
According to Noel Rivera, curator of the Pasig City Museum, the Sto. Niño exhibit will last until tomorrow, January 16.
A pet project of Pasig City First Lady Soledad "Soly" Eusebio who is a Sto. Niño devotee herself, the exhibit is part of the week-long Bambino Festival currently ongoing in Pasig to commemorate the feast day of the Sto. Niño. Aside from the exhibit, the Bambino Festival also features daily masses and novenas by devotees to the Child Jesus. The festivities will be highlighted by a grand procession along Caruncho Boulevard today, January 15.
The procession, to be led by Pasig Archbishop Francisco C. San Diego, will be participated by delegations coming from the different parishes and barangays in Pasig City.
