Open source movement gets push in RP colleges
The growing influence of open source movement – the collaborative effort by which developers freely contribute and distribute software codes — has caught up with the local education sector as five tertiary institutions made a deal to promote the technology in their curriculum.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) — Apple Computer Inc. has filed to trademark the phrase ‘’Mobile Me’’ for use in a wide range of businesses, furthering speculation it could introduce an iPod phone.

3Com launches new Switch 4500 family
3Com Corporation introduced the industry’s first stackable LAN (local area network) switch designed specifically to address small-to-medium enterprise customers’ growing need for robust security and support of Voice over IP (VoIP) and other convergence applications. The new 3Com Switch 4500 family combines standards-based security for user authentication; support for the new TippingPoint X505, the first integrated security platform built upon Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) technology; and dynamic “plugand-play” support for multiple vendors’ VoIP services.

SINGAPORE — Sun Microsystems, Inc. recently announced that the Sun Fire T2000 server has won the "Most Innovative Server" award in the Systems category in InfoWorld’s 2006 Technology of the Year honors. The Sun Fire T2000 with unique CoolThreads technology is the industry’s first eight core, 32-thread processor that packs the performance of a rack of servers onto a single chip.

BSP urged to push Internet banking
Catanduanes Rep. Joseph Santiago has prodded the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to require all commercial banks to build up their Internet banking facilities "within a given deadline" in order to provide Filipinos access to "online only" services that are absolutely free of unwanted monthly charges.
