Since security is one of the many demands of people nowadays, different kinds of security cameras are available out in the market. But if you plan on using a security over the internet, the D-Link Wireless G Internet Camera is what you need.

The DCS-3220G model is an internet camera. Once installed on the area you wish to monitor, it can either be connected wirelessly or thru cable. It has its own IP address, which you will use when accessing the camera through the internet.

Since we weren't able to find a wi-fi area within the office that won't create a lot of complaints (since we'll be invading their privacy with a security camera), we connected it though or local area network. And behold, we are seeing our officemates from another department.

With two-way audio, it let's you monitor a specific area accompanied with sound. When connected with a powered speaker (sold separately), it can broadcast your voice to that area so that the people there will hear you.

Another cool feature of the D-Link DCS-3220G Internet Camera is that is has 4x digital zoom; a useful tool when observing things more closely. This is one feature that I find very useful, especially when something odd is caught by the camera.

One thing I find difficult with this product is the IP Surveillance software which you must install to put into video what you are monitoring. It's interface is not that user-friendly. There are some features that are very technical to a non-techie user.

Another thing is the recording process is quite a task. The software has its own transcoder, meaning, you have to re-encode the video file (which has a weird filename extension) in order for it to be played in other multimedia players.

The camera also has a motion detection feature which, when enabled, will automatically send the administrator an e-mail alert that something or someone within the camera's view is moving. You can also set schedules on when the camera will start recording or taking videos and snapshots.

I suggest that for almost all types of business, especially those that are IT-related, the D-Link DCS-3220G Wireless G Internet Camera is one useful gadget. As long as you have internet access, you can be sure that everything is safe, no matter how far you are from your office.
