we first said "I do!" to this gig just a little over a year ago, the About Weddings crew vowed to help people in style. We pretty much did that for our first twelve months. Most soon-to-weds who got acquainted with our section were given ideas for wedding and honeymoon destinations, discovered wedding suppliers whom we profiled and got other tips that they really won’t find anywhere else.
We’re cooking up a lot of new stuff for 2006, starting with our announcement that About Weddings is now coming out twice a month because once is simply not enough—not for us and certainly not for you.
We got new sections to go with our new beginnings as well. Who was that dope that once said the best way to a man’s heart was through his stomach? That cliché actually applies to the opposite sex as well. And that is why we have recipes for all sorts of pre and post-wedding situations.
We’ve got stuff for guys to easily whip up when they need to pop the big question—good food certainly helps in eliciting a favorable response. We have something for future brides to cook in times when they need to convince their fiancés as to which wedding suppliers to hire for the big event. We even have recipes for newlyweds for the big night and the morning after. Who knows? We might even have something up our sleeves that tastes so good, it just might get soon-to-weds to actually cook on the wedding day itself.
Yes, we’re giving the grooms more attention this year. Until we started About Weddings, most of us here had no idea how very much involved the grooms were in the wedding preparations. Our last cover story on weddings in the Philippines did gave us an idea on the extent of their actual involvement—many grooms now play a big role in choosing the wedding gown of their brides-to-be. Now that we know, we’re giving them their own space here. After all, it does take two to tango and weddings are just as much about the grooms as they are about brides. You’ll be surprised at what these guys have to say in this new section. It’s certainly a lot more than just typical boytalk, so stay tuned.
In our first year, we featured Baguio, Palawan, and Boracay as wedding and honeymoon destinations in the country. We will continue doing these special features every other month. It’s really no big secret that the Philippines is indeed a terrific place to stage a wedding. After all, we do have more than 7,000 islands to choose from and there’s bound to be a few more that we can recommend as ideal wedding destinations. Despite our economic and political woes, many places in the country remain favored tourist spots that also double as perfect venues for weddings and honeymoons. As a matter of fact, we have already lined up a couple of these beautiful places, so do watch out for our upcoming special issues.
Weddings, at least in this country, happen only once in a lifetime, so it is extremely important for the two most important people involved to make the best decisions regarding the staging of the big event. And this is what About Weddings is here for. We have already helped several people make the right choices with regards to venues, themes, motifs, invitations, bridal gowns, wedding cakes, bridal cars, entertainers, and just about all other aspects involved. Soon-to-weds can certainly count on us to continue doing this in 2006.
To quote a favorite wedding song by The Carpenters, we’ve only just begun. This New Year promises to be a more eventful one for About Weddings. For our readers especially those who are about to tie the knot, this means twice as many tips and ideas for making their special day, er, even more special. For us, it means twice the hard work, but also twice the fun and the excitement. About Weddings is about weddings, after all. We believe there are a million and one stories to tell about each and every one of them. We’re confident that you’ll be happy to read all about them as well.
