We have been enjoying the Oscars live, so why not the Golden Globe awards?
Now we can as Studio 23 marks television milestone, when it airs the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards via satellite tomorrow, Jan. 17.
This special satellite airing is the very first time the Golden Globe Awards will be shown right about the same time that the rest of the world is watching it.
This special Studio 23 broadcast will also mark the first free-TV satellite broadcast of the Golden Globes in the Philippines. While other channels have aired the Golden Globes, none have aired it via satellite before.
The Studio 23 satellite broadcast of the Golden Globes is set for 8 a.m. tomorrow, with a special primetime airing at 7:30 p.m. on the same day. Studio 23’s hit morning show "Breakfast" leads directly into the satellite broadcast of the US kudofest.
Generally considered a precursor to the Academy Awards and the Emmys, the Golden Globe awards were first handed out 63 years ago by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the most-anticipated awards shows in Hollywood, since it is perceived as more "hip and edgy than its staider cousins," the Oscars and the Golden Globes.
It’s also seen by many showbiz watchers to be the most "fun" awards night, with the stars encouraged to let down their inhibitions by the free-flowing alcohol served at the award ceremony itself. The Globes have seen no less than Jack Nicholson dropping his pants and mooning the audience. In 1998, Christine Lahti nearly missed accepting her award for "Chicago Hope" because she was in the bathroom. In 2001, a seemingly not-all-there Elizabeth Taylor nearly announced the best picture winner before she had read all the nominees.
Confirmed trophy presenters include Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, Renee Zellweger, Hilary Swank, Drew Barrymore, former Oscar host Chris Rock, Mariah Carey, Dennis Quaid, Eric Bana, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, Lindsey Lohan, Queen Latifah, CSI’s William Petersen, "Las Vegas’" Josh Duhamel, and "Desperate Housewives‘" Nicolette Sheridan. Sir Anthony Hopkins will also be on hand to collect his Cecil B. DeMille award

Miguel Castro in an
auspicious start in ’06
After garnering year-ender citations from critics for his laudable performance in "St. Louis Loves dem Filipinos... the Musical," theater actor Miguel Castro faces 2006 with an equally interesting schedule of activities.
With a couple of firsts in 2005 — (first musical in St. Louis, first mixed media mask exhibits in "Bal Masque" and "Unmasked," and first hosting job for SM Supermalls series of fashion shows,) Miguel faces the new year with more firsts in his long career in theater.
He plays Diego Silang to Gabriela Silang in the Dulaang UP cantana "Gabriela" Feb. 8-26, Guerrero Theater, UP; will be introduced in the Valentine concert "Hearts in Season," Manila Peninsula Rigodon Ballroom Feb. 13, with Janet Basco, Ivy Violan, and Dulce; and will launch a CD-Lite of original Filipino compositions entitled "Miguel Castro Sings" — all of them during the first quarter.
He will work on his first digital film project during the second quarter, and will hold more exhibits and join more musical ventures during the latter part of the year, while appearing in theatrical presentations, as well as writing and directing a couple of plays.
Miguel has appeared in more than 25 plays in his decade-long experience in theater, but it was only last year that he started to branch out to other fields in the visual and performing arts. He can be reached through his manager Bibsy Carballo 726-7164, 09178991835, e–mail bibsymcar@ya-hoo.com
