Ampatuan to host luncheon meeting
COTABATO CITY -- Eleven envoys from the European Union (EU), led by European Commission (EC) in the Philippines representative Ambassador Jan de Kok, will visit tomorrow, January 18, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) which is under the new leadership of Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan.
Samson Gogo, head of the ARMM's Bureau of Public Information (BPI) told Manila Bulletin the EU-EC delegation will visit and check the progress of two of its projects in barangay Dungguan, Montawal, and in barangay Pandag, Buluan, both in Maguindanao.
Gogo said the delegation is composed of Kok, Ambassadors Herbert Jager (Austria), Jaroslav Ludva (Czech Republic), Riita Resch (Finland), Ruben Fedele (Italy), Joao Caetano da Silva (Portugal), Peter Beckingham (United Kingdom), Radu Homescu (Romania), Annika Markovic (Sweden), and Gregoire Vardakis (Belgium).
Gogo said other members of the delegation are United Nations Development Program (UNDP) representatives Kyo Naka and Emily Fajardo, and DFA and DAR representatives.
The delegation is on tour to monitor and check EU-EC projects called Support To Agrarian Reform Community in Central Mindanao (STAR-CM) and parts of ARMM.
Included in their itinerary are Kidapawan City with North Cotabato Governor Manny Pinol as host, Quirino in Sultan Kudarat, and in South Cotabato, among others.
From Manila, they will fly to Maguindanao's Awang Airport where Ampatuan will lead a rousing and colorful welcoming ceremony for the foreign dignitaries and Filipino members of their delegation. Officials from the Department of Foreighn Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will be accompanying the EU-EC delegation. (EDD K. USMAN)
