30 years of Academic Excellence and Service to the Community
"Educating the Mind, Body and Soul" is the motto which inspires Olivarez College to fulfill its mission in providing its students a holistic education committed to the teaching of the minds, touching the hearts and transforming the lives of the Filipino youth. On January 17 to 20, 2006, Olivarez College will be celebrating 30 years of its existence. Still, Olivarian students and alumni take pride in their alma mater as it continues to reap honors and achievements from the academe for its search for academic excellence.
When asked what makes him proud to be an Olivarian, Mike Emerson Pasaron, a 3rd year Psychology student, replied: "Olivarez College is one of the most popular schools in Southern Metro Manila. One cannot help but to be awed by its state-of-the- art facilities." Julius Austria, a 4th year Business Management student, added, "Being an Olivarian is such a great pride. The institution provides a holistic education where students can develop their skills and talents in all aspects. It produces dignified and competent students who are equipped to face any challenges that may come their way."
Olivarez College considers that quality education as that which it exemplifies should not be confined to those who are financially capable. It believes that less privileged but deserving students should also be given the opportunity to have a good education. Hence, various scholarship programs are made available to students who meet the requirements provided by the school. Among them are the academic, athletic, and working student assistant scholarship programs.
Olivarian students excel not only in academics but in the fields of athletics and music and arts, too. The Basic Education Department has been awarded the undefeated over-all champion for the Private School Association of Parañaque (formerly BAPPSA) since 1993. Moreso, its volleyball, and swimming team have consistently topped the National Capital Region Athletics Association (NCRAA). Jacob Hassan, a first year high school student won the gold for swimming in Palarong Pambansa last May while Pablo Olivarez II, a 3rd year high school student, is ranked 1 in the Philippine Tennis Association in the 18 years and under and 16 years and under categories. On December 14 and 18, the Grade School and High School Chorale respectively won in the Christmas Chorale Competition held in SM Sucat and Market! Market!. Julius Austria is also the 2005 Smart Top Student of the Year. These are but some of the proofs of Olivarian excellence!
Further, linkages with local and foreign institutions are established by the school to fully ensure that Olivarian graduates are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for their future employments. For instance, selected Hotel and Restaurant Management students are sent in Singapore for their on-the-job training. Most of them are hired as full time employees after graduation by their Singaporean trainors who are pleased with their performance.
As service to its community, Olivarez College extends free pre-school to the children of the residents of the school’s adopted community, Sitio Sto. Niño, Parañaque City. Livelihood skills, vocational training, and entrepreneurship are offered to the residents. The school administrators, members of the faculty and students likewise conduct regular visitations in the adopted community to provide health education.
"Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa Olivarez College dahil natulungang makapag-aral ang anak ko sa libreng pre-school nila. Pati kaming mga magulang, tinuruan nilang gumawa ng iba’t ibang bagay na puwede naming gawing hanapbuhay," said Elena de Leon, a resident of Sitio Sto. Niño.
Truly, Olivarez College is relatively young. However, it does not fail to measure up to the standards of other highly respected educational institutions. It will never cease to raise its bar of excellence and contribute to the service of its community.
