LAOAG CITY — A boxing fan, who was reportedly extremely excited while watching at home the televised Pacquiao-Morales fight last Sunday, suffered an apparent heart attack and later died in the hospital, a medical report stated.
Doctors at the Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital said Benito Co, 66, married, of Barangay 16, San Jacinto, this city, was taken to the emergency room at past 3 p.m. and expired a few hours later.
Relatives said that Co was probably excited extremely while he was watching Pacquiao fight Morales.
"He cheered for Pacman, his idol," one of them said.
In a related incident, an accidental fire gutted the ancestral home of Pasuquin (Ilocos Norte) Mayor Oscar Aguinaldo while the caretakers watched on TV the undercard of the Pacquiao-Morales fight.
Meanwhile, the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president of Solsona, Ilocos Norte was shot dead last week by a suspected hired killer, police said .
Senior Supt. Juan Luna, Ilocos Norte police director, reported that Cresencio Viloria, also sectoral councilor of Solsona, was gunned down in front of his house after attending the canvassing in a beauty contest at the town proper.
Investigators said the assailant attacked the victim as he parked his jeep in the garage. He died on the spot. (Jun Guiang)
