The name of this (barely) talking head is David Byrne
I’D rather meet Jimi Hendrix, the guy beside me said, pointing to the stocky doorman of the bar next door who was dressed in a shirt with a dagger collar, a stratospheric Afro (obviously fake), and a full-blown Tom Selleck-y handlebar mustache (patently real).

PUNK is SOOOO not DEAD
HE punk revolution was all about going against the grain, sticking it to the "man" and the culmination of all that was anti-establishment. Here in the Philippines, it was the voice of the youth pushing the boundaries of what was considered the norm and conforming. And it was one loud, screechy, screaming voice paired with clothes that nobody understood--ripped, mismatched and disheveled, and hair that went against all rules of gravity by seemingly poking the stratosphere. The higher, the better; the weirder, the better; the more disturbing, the better.

BIG TIME
FOR this reviewer, the Metro Manila Filmfest was a dismal experience. Paying money and coming out of the theaters feeling like you’d had one put over on you. Made me stay at home and not bother to see all the films. There’s a reason why the local film industry is the way it is, and that’s a lack of vision.

Countryside Shopping
GOOD news to all ukay ukay shoppers--there’s a new reason to go to Tagaytay. Other than enjoying the beautiful scenery of Taal Lake and the volcano, and the breezy cool weather, you can now shop, too!

Love, Work and Friday Nights Out
THREE days after the fact, and it’s almost as if I can still hear the ecstatic screams of thousands of young women (and a few stray men), whipped up into an idolatrous frenzy. Sadly, I am not talking about the launch of my second book, which is still many months in the future and unlikely to inspire such hysteria. I’m talking about the Backstreet Boys concert at the Araneta Coliseum last January 20. Yes, I was there. No, I would normally not have gone, but I happen to love my girlfriend, who happens to love the Backstreet Boys. Yes, I did feel a little silly once or twice, a situation not helped by the mocking texts sent by my younger sister. "How’s the concert? :)" she texted. "Wahahaha! BSB in the house!" I reminded her that I’m not the one with original Backstreet Boys albums in my CD-buying past.
