O2 XDA ATOM LAUNCHING AT THE TEMPLE BAR
spacer

Sexy in black minus the bulk - By Paul Marc Rañon

First, there was the Xda. Then, there was the Xda II mini.

And just last January 11, at the Temple Bar in Makati City, media organizations, including Manila Bulletin's Technews, were privileged to be invited in the unveiling of their newest baby, the O2 Xda Atom, the world's smallest multimedia PDA-phone.

The Atom packs more features than its predecessor, the Xda II mini, and is small, light, fast and powerful, that makes heads turn wherever it goes. It's sexy, and most of all, it's black.

It was a full house when this writer attended the press launching, and most of the media peeps could say their ohhs and ahhs at the good impressions, looks, and power-packed features of the Xda Atom.

Besides from its good looks and charm, the Xda Atom is the world's first PDA-phone with a 2 MegaPixel camera with built-in flash, large 2.7 inches 262K-color QVGA TFT-LCD touch screen, and powered by Intel PXA27x processor.

The Xda Atom is also the first PDA-phone with an FM radio tuner feature and the new O2 MediaPlus application that is the first multimedia center created for PDA-phones. With this feature, the user has an almost complete entertainment center at their fingertips wherein one can play MP3 music files, home movies, music videos, audiobooks, downloaded films and sports game highlights.

It runs on the new Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and has enhanced features in Microsoft Office programs. More so, the mobile productivity of the O2 Xda Atom will make busy executives drool with its 128MB Flash ROM, 64MB RAM, MiniSD card slot for memory expansion up to 1GB, built-in wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Quadband EDGE, and IrDA connectivity.

Present during the press launch were Mark Billington, CEO of O2 Asia Pacific, Lawrence Lee, country manager for sales, and John Featherstone, vice president for sales, South East Asia and Oceania. The event was hosted by DJ Carl of K-Lite 103.5.

"The Xda Atom offers all the latest digital innovations in a truly sexy form factor. It is exclusive to the O2 brand, carries our unique O2 signature, and meets the promise to our customers. It is our first gift to them this brand new year," Mark Billington said.

During the event, O2 has given away one brand new O2 Xda Atom to one of the media participants who join the bartending contest.

"We are optimistic that the O2 Xda Atom will be a huge hit to the Philippine market. With our previous successes of the Atom's predecessors, I think the Xda Atom will dominate the PDA market here," Lawrence Lee said.
