PSID studes shine in Hub design tilt

Be tantalized! This call had inspired budding interior designers who were tapped to participate in the holiday window display contest for Hub by Globe Telecom.

As a mobile phone gallery, the Hub stands out in the world of retail by offering people the pleasure of a truly modern shopping experience. At the Hub, people can view, touch, and tinker with the latest and upcoming mobile phone models. The seamless fusion of visual artistry and technology has made an impression on the public, with visually captivating in-store merchandising campaigns.

The Hub store windows are a formidable barometer of the synergistic union of artistic sensibilities and technological developments. Through them, Globe Telecom continues to successfully showcase the artistic integration of technology and design.

Recently, 10 young interior designers formed five teams and were assigned to a Hub outlet. Working with the tagline, "Be tantalized!," each team used Christmas and a featured mobile phone to serve as inspirations for their window displays.

Globe then tapped as judges design and fashion stalwarts Cecile Zamora, Ivar Aseron, Ito Kish, Chito Vijandre, and Ricky Toledo. The five were tasked to assess the works of the 10 budding designers from the Philippine School for Interior Design (PSID) who were picked by interior design guru Leo Almeria. The judges themselves have had a long association with Globe.

Ivar Aseron was responsible for the design of the Hub uniforms and has been tagged as the designer to watch in 2006. The four others came up with arresting Christmas displays for the Hub windows in 2004

Fashion designer and columnist Zamora is recognized as a fashion trendsetter. Ito Kish, whom Globe also commissioned to give the Globe Telecom Business Centers a new look, is the style-savvy CEO of contemporary home store KiSH. Toledo and Vijandre, on the other hand, have consistently showcased their discerning eye for various style trends in the upscale store Firma.

The judges got their first look at the Hub window displays when they were unveiled last December. Their experience and astute style sense considered, the five judges were pleasantly surprised by the concepts of the young interior designers. They ended up picking two winners.

Vikki Ranada and Kat Bautista dolled up the Hub at the Power Plant Mall and impressed the judges with an avant-garde design featuring an oversized illustration of a layered eye and a layered star. The Nokia N70 camcorderphone was cocooned at the center of the eye to epitomize desire.

Leni Rivera and Jamie Tan, the duo in charge of the Glorietta Hub, made their hip window display stand out by showcasing the Sony Ericsson W550i within a suspended Christmas tree adorned with crystals.

Ecstatic over their win, the two teams both expressed how honored they felt. "We’re very grateful to Globe for giving us this opportunity to show our work to a large audience," they said.

The rest of their equally talented contemporaries—Melissa Ongsue and Mark See at Greenbelt 3 (Samsung D600), Dorothy Yap and Carlo Mecate at The Podium (Motorola ROKR E1), and Ann Dee and Joliot Ong at Greenhills (Nokia N90) — complete the finalists.

The Hub Stores are located at Greenbelt 3, The Podium, Power Plant Mall, Glorietta 4 and Greenhills.
