whole day of fun and excitement awaits racing fans tomorrow when the green flag is waved at the parking lot of the Expo Filipino inside Clarkfield in Pampanga for the first ever drifting competition in the country.
Called "Countersteer," the car drifting event assembles some of the best drivers in the country who will vie for the pride of winning top honors for the new motorsport event.
Countersteer, which is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, will showcase more than 20 drivers aboard souped-up cars who will try to out-maneuver each other during two timed individual runs.
Each competitor will be given two judged runs with a one-minute maximum time limit per run. The best score among the two individual runs will be the official score for the finals.
From all the competitor’s scores, the top five competitors will progress to the semi-finals and will make two more individual runs each. Only the top two drivers will proceed to the finals and will be given one run each. Sudden death rules will apply in case of a tie. In case of spinouts or overshooting, points will be deducted according to how many percent of the course is finished.
Judging will be based on the driver’s speed, angle of attack, showmanship and execution. Three judges will be on hand to award points for each competitor.
The maximum points scored that can be awarded by each judge is 10 points while the minimum is one point. Each competitor can accumulate as much as 30 points per run. The scores will be displayed on a board for public scrutiny and tallying.
All drivers who are holders of a Philippine driver’s license, an international license or a racing license are eligible to compete. Minors who want to join should have written permission from parents or guardians to participate in the competition.
The entry fee has been waived for the initial event. A driver is only allowed to register and enter only once per event. Multiple drivers may take turns driving one car.
Eligible drivers must show proof of ownership and registration of their cars. In case of different ownership, a written permission from the owner of the vehicle should be presented. Trophies await the two top drivers.
Countersteer is presented by K-Lite 103.5 together with Burnt Rubber Productions and Animax, and sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines.
