Farewell to our beloved President Emeritus Dr. Andrew Gonzalez, FSC, distinguished educator, an intellectual giant, visionary leader, and a generous benefactor RARELY does one find a person who combines remarkable intellect and practicality. Much more extraordinary is when the same person combines these attributes with the gift of visionary leadership. As if these traits were not enough, a person who has also been endowed by the Almighty with unquestionable integrity and an unfaltering commitment to serve others definitely shines like a gem.
A champion’s gratitude IT’S a phenomenon commonly observed that once a man attains a measure of success and prominence in life, his friends, well-wishers, and relations disproportionately increase. That’s the case with Manny Pacquiao, whose magnificent performance in the ring earned him the accolades of the high and mighty to the extent that he magnanimously dedicated his triumph to his country.
Why impose on the people? THE first visible effect of the pastoral letter of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines is not President Arroyo’s statement that she accepts its demands "with humility and an open mind" and that she would help ferret out the truth surrounding the controversies affecting her presidency.
Court of Appeals 70th Anniversary IN their study of the Philippine Revolution of 1896, the American colonial authorities concluded that injustices committed against the Filipino people were one of its causes. Thus, the judiciary was one of the government institutions that they immediately established to help correct this.
Vital electoral reforms through Charter change MUCH has been said about Charter Change and the need for electoral reforms. While there are those who argue that electoral reforms must take precedence over Charter change, a second school of thought maintains that to make electoral reforms more meaningful, they must be enshrined in the Constitution itself. New legislation and a Comelec revamp would not suffice to ensure the holding of credible elections.
Lessons from a brother’s death IT’S very painful to lose a loved one, especially if the loss is sudden.
The rejection at Nazareth [Jesus] departed from there and came to His native place, accompanied by His disciples. When the sabbath came He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given Him? What mighty deeds are wrought by His hands! Is He not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house." So He was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying His hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Fitness DO you want to feel less stressed? Less tired? More control of your weight and appearance? More healthy? Do you want to reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and many other health problems? Believe it or not, there is one thing that can help you do all of this, and it doesn’t come in a bottle. It’s regular physical activity.
Dr. Andrew B. Gonzalez, FSC BRO. Andrew is one of those rare intellectuals who had successfully straddled the world of the academe and that of business management. Those of us in the education, media, and the arts sectors mourn his passing away at 65. If he had accomplished so much within these past six decades, it can be attributed not so much to his intellect and competence, as to his ability to manage time and resources. He was a man in a hurry and those of us who had worked with him are well aware of this trait.
Positive indicators DESPITE the continuing political noise, socio-economic hardships, and other challenges ahead, be happy.
