THE SAN Miguel Beermen, in a bid to address their problems at the backcourt, traded forward Nic Belasco to the Alaska Aces for shooting guard Brandon Cablay and practice player Mark Kong.
With Danny Seigle seeing more minutes at the forward position, the Beermen have become vulnerable at the backcourt with Olsen Racela and Dondon Hontiveros getting brief rest.
Cablay, a former slam-dunk champion, is a scoring threat from the backcourt. He can create his shots and opportunities for his teammates.
He averaged 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2 assists for the Aces in the Fiesta Conference despite playing behind the shadows of Jeffrey Cariaso. He has career averages of 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Kong, 15th overall pick in last year’s rookie draft, has yet to see action in the pro.
Belasco, 32, remains a solid contributor.
He averaged 9.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2 assists for the Beermen in the Fiesta Conference, all better than his career norms of 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists. —Noli CRUZ
