After initially downplaying reports that they will release their own operating system, Google has confirmed it is working on a desktop linux project called Goobuntu - a portemanteau of Google and Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.
Testings are currently ongoing between Google and Dell afterwhich would be pre-installed on 100 million new Dell computers. Dell said they are testing a Google Powered home page, Google Toolbar and Google desktop search.
Unconfirm reports also suggests that part of the test is including Google Pack in Dell machines. The Google pack includes Google Earth, Google Desktop, Picasa, Google Talk, Mozilla Firefox, Norton Antivirus, and Adobe Reader 7. Google OpenOffice might also be included.
OpenOffice is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute.
Hewlett-Packard, Gateway Inc., Sony Corp., Apple Computer Inc. and Toshiba Corp. are already partners of Google to distribute the Google Toolbar.
