Bose SoundDock: Mini Boom Box
By Bambi Sanchez
Here we are once again to the day of hearts ... Valentine's Day ... "the day" most people try to find something romantic or perfect for them, so to speak. Settling down with the right person can be as vital as choosing the right person to share your life with. But, as with any relationship, the right or wrong choices are different because every situation is unique. What works for one may not work for another.
This year, I have chosen a valentine for myself ... the BOSE SoundDock, the perfect "significant other" for iPODs. Remember in an earlier article that I have fancied the companionship of my new iPOD? Just being crazy swooning over my new acquisition? Well, I am still in the state of euphoria about it ... and I am glad it has lasted for some good two months now. The SoundDock is great, with surprising bass & clarity of sound coming from such small speakers. Of course, it isn't packed like the bass of a full size stereo with subwoofer or even a Bose Wave, but really, it's barely taller than the iPod itself and only a few inches deep. It mirrors the iPod's essence of great, simple design. You simply drop your iPod into the built-in dock (while it charges) and push play on the little remote control and it will play whatever you've already selected on the iPod, whether it is a Playlist, album or random song shuffling. I just love random song shuffling ... nothing like a random number generator to uncover the deep, dark secrets of your music collection. Well, we know nothing is perfect in this world. My only complaint with "my valentine partners" is that i have to insert a different dock adapter for different iPODs. Like for instance, my dad's MINI and my NANO don't use the same insert, though it is just a minor nuisance switching back and forth. How I wish Bose had devised a better way to accommodate various widths of iPODs! By the way, if yours is the old, first generation iPOD, this product is not for you, ALTHOUGH it has several advantages. It can be configured with most any iPOD as it comes with several adapters to seat the iPOD on the Bose dock. Additionally, the BOSE unit charges your iPOD. I strongly recommend the Bose SoundDock. If you have the extra cash, go for it. Most likely you won't be sorry you invested your few bottom dollars into it. The sound is superb. And go further a little with your investment on the "remote". To me, it is indispensable, if you are to enjoy the full extent of the product. It was never intended to replace a full size sound system, but within the constraints of its size, it performs fantastically well. The mid range misses out a little, but the bass is surprisingly good for a unit of this size. It can fill a large room with excellent sound. It is loud enough for you to enjoy good bass and clear sound in your living room or on the balcony (at a volume loud enough to get your neighbors to complain). It is even so portable you can basically unplug, carry into the garden or away on vacation, like you would call it a "party in a bag". What more can I expect from this? Oh, what simple pleasures I derive from this little "valentine's" date. So, do not miss any minute longer. Do not hem and haw. Do not miss any day longer waiting. Get one tiny valentine present for you now. Just as you’d like to find yourself a perfect significant other, go get a Bose SoundDock if you have an iPOD and you will agree that you are truly M.F.E.O. (meant for each other). The Bose Soundock is EVERYTHING YOU NEED! Truly the gold standard with which to measure ANY OTHER unit available of its kind to date.
