3Com appoints new CEO
spacer




3Com Corporation recently announced that its Board of Directors has named R. Scott Murray President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Murray succeeds Bruce Claflin who retires. Murray also assumes Claflin’s position on the 3Com Board of Directors. Murray will shortly become Chairman of the company’s joint venture in China, Huawei-3Com.

"After meeting with a number of highly qualified candidates, we found Scott extremely well-suited to lead 3Com into the future," said Eric Benhamou, Chairman of 3Com. "His ability to drive operations, grow revenue and increase profitability will be critical in accelerating the execution of 3Com’s strategy and creating shareholder value."

Prior to accepting the role of CEO for 3Com, Murray was the CEO of Modus Media International, a global provider of supply chain management and hosted services. While at Modus, he built operational excellence and a strong focus on growth in revenue and new service offerings, which resulted in increased shareholder value and profitability. He also expanded Modus’ operations in Europe and Asia, particularly in China.

"3Com has a sound strategy and incredible assets, including its core networking products; its industry leading security division, TippingPoint; and its joint venture with Huawei, all of which position it to become a leading vendor of secured, converged networking solutions for enterprise customers worldwide," added Murray. "I am confident that my global operations background and experience in turning around international technology companies will help 3Com capitalize on its current momentum and continue our path to profitability. I look forward to working with the management team to grow the 3Com business and make it a world-class industry leader that delivers value to its employees, customers, partners and investors."

In addition to his work with Modus Media, Murray also was president and chief operating officer for Stream International, an outsourced Customer Relationship Management (CRM) services company. He previously served as Chief Financial Officer for the Learning Company, a publicly traded software company with more than 0 million in annual revenue. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario and began his career as a chartered accountant for Arthur Andersen in Canada.
