CEBU CITY (PNA) — The wife of Abel Monterola, the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was killed in Riyadh Saudi Arabia last Monday, has appealed for justice.
Loresa Monterola conveyed her plea to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) when she went to the DFA-Central Visayas office to inquire about the schedule of arrival of her husband’s remains.
Overseas Workers Welfare Officer 3 Romel Cabillo, who accompanied Loresa to DFA, said she asked DFA regional director Angel Espiritu about the progress of the investigation of her husband’s killing and if the suspects had been identified.
"She asked DFA Regional Director Angel Espiritu if they can get justice if the suspects will be identified," he added.
Espiritu confirmed that Loreza asked about the circumstances of her husband’s killing and if the suspects could be prosecuted.
He said he just assured Loresa that DFA was doing their best to know the circumstances leading to the killing of her husband and another Filipino worker.
There were reports that the police in Riyadh were the ones who killed Monterola, but the DFA and even the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in the region could not confirm it.
Based on the official report of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, the company vehicle transporting the five OFWs to their jobsite was caught in a crossfire between security forces in the area and the suspected militants who attempted to attack the world’s largest oil processing plant last Feb. 27.
Aside from Monterola, also killed in the attack were Felix Llorando. The other wounded OFWs were Rodel Canlas Miranda, Salvador Traquena Bibon, 34, and Jimmy Mayo Pactor, 36.
Cabillo said that they received information that Interior Ministry in Saudi Arabia was conducting the investigation.
