SPRING COOKING Oil has found a new partner in the Parañaque Jets of Vice Mayor and actor/host Anjo Yllana a week before the National Basketball Conference’s third season kicks off on March 10 in Tagaytay City.
After backing the Laguna team of Gov. Teresita "Ningning" Lazaro, NBC president Nathaniel "Tac" Padilla has decided to hook up with the Jets to allow Laguna to combine forces with Sta. Rosa City.
"It was a mutual agreement between Spring and Laguna. Laguna wants to form a new team bannered mostly by local players since this is the real objective of the league," said Padilla. "Since most of Spring’s players are Metro Manilans, the tieup with Parañaque is the best move."
Vice Mayor Yllana’s Jets will merge with Spring’s remaining players in the upcoming tourney supported by Panasonic, Sulpicio Lines, Spring Cooking Oil, Nature’s Spring, Firefly Electric, Molten and Prime Channel.
In their debut last year, the Jets did not do too well after being tagged as one of the favorites. They lost to Bacchus/Harbour Centre in the best-of-three semifinals.
Spring stalwarts Rodel Manuel, Mar Reyes and Danny Capobres, off-season recruits Harold Sta. Cruz, Patrick Tiongco, Ariel de Castro and John Barretto, Marvin Yambao, Lou Abad, Bambi Barnson, actor Antonio Aquitania and Yllana will make up Spring/Parañaque with Efren "Yong" Garcia as coach.
Spring/Parañaque will face Bacchus/Harbour Centre of Coach Lawrence Chongson and Mikee Romero in one of the opening matches at the Tagaytay Convention Center.
