SUBIC — Jody Coseteng of the San Miguel-Erg Alcotonic Team capped his overpowering performance by winning the morning race to clinch the overall champion of the Philippine Touring Car Championship 2005 yesterday at the Subic International Raceway here.

Though all he needed was just to finish the race to win the title, Coseteng did not frustrate his supporters by coming up with another gutsy performance to notch his 8th title since coming back in the circuit in 1998.

He won the series with a whooping 279 points.

"I’d like to thank the whole team, they did a great job throughout the season. The mechanics didn’t let me down especially in the last race, and our sponsors San Miguel and Erg Alcotonic were all out in their support this year," said Coseteng.

While he won the morning race with nary a trouble, Coseteng encountered problem in the afternoon race to settle for second.

Kookie Ramirez of Petron Ultron-SRA finished second overall with 206 points.

Early in the race, Ramirez and Carlos Anton of MP Turbo figured in a collision at the start, forcing officials, led by Clerk-of-Course Rolen Paulino to restart the race. Later Ramirez was given a black flag and so was Dennis Uy of Velocity Motors-Conocoracing Team, allowing Louis Ramirez of Petron Ultron-SRA to challenge Coseteng.

But Coseteng refused to be intimidated and went on to win the race with Louis Ramirez finishing second. Uy and Philip Alvendia of A3 Motorsports / Malayan Automasters Touring Car Team ended third and fourth respectively. Kookie Ramirez wound up fifth.

In the afternoon race, Coseteng was leading the race until he accidentally hit the exit by mistake, paving the way for Louis Ramirez’s victory. Anton finished third while Uy and Alvendia came in fourth and fifth.

The event is duly sanctioned by the governing Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by The Philippine Star, Bendix Brakes, Rota Wheels, Johnny Walker, Smirnoff Ice, A-toy body kits, Gadgets & C! Magazines, Home Radio 97.9, DWIZ 88.2, KTC Tools and Autoindustriya.com.
