SHAPELY BODY

by HEIZEL L. MAINAR

Keeping a healthy lifestyle and a shapely body with curves in the right places are some of the common concerns of many city dwellers nowadays. This concern drives them to flock the gym and burn those unwanted calories or try different diet plans as either recommended by their friends or an idea they got from a magazine hoping to find the right diet formula to lose weight. Little do they know, in order for any health regimen to succeed, it all depends on their body’s dietary requirements.

During a meeting with the local press, Dr. Mario Rosenberg, director of Metabolic Support Team at Brotman Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, and a member of the US-based Herbalife Medical Advisory Board states the importance of personalizing the amount of protein in your diet plan to lose weight.

"Nutrition has advanced dramatically and certain foods has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Eating healthy food is not a diet but a lifestyle," he says. Rosenberg adds, "there is a serious problem of obesity all over the world and 25 years ago, 25 percent of the world’s population is overweight.
Now, 50 percent of the world’s population suffers the problem of obesity."

Still according to him, people nowadays must be more conscious on what they eat. "When you watch television and sees an instant weight loss advertisement, it is just like magic. But there is no magic to weight loss, only science which is through personalizing the amount of protein intake."

The program of protein personalization is based on many years of research in UCLA where there is an indepth study for human nutrition. According to Rosenberg, the diet program begins with the Body Analysis of the body’s protein targets and the Resting Metabolic Rate which is used to determine your body’s daily calorie needs for your weight-loss goals. Once the body analysis is complete, the lean protein estimator is used to help know the body and create a personalized ideal meal.

"The average-sized woman requires 100 grams of protein while a man requires 150 grams per day. If a person's diet does not have enough protein, then the body will steal protein from the muscles and organs," he relates.

The increase in protein intake controls hunger and helps maintain a lean body mass, increase metabolism and burn calories. Thus, by substituting protein as a meal replacement yeilds a more realistic expectation on the target weight and will provide the body the right balance of hunger-minimizing protein.

Although personalization of protein is essential in the weight loss program, soya protein is a better alternative since protein found in meat usually comes with extra fat calories.

"The equation for a successful diet is the right amount of protein plus a combination of healthy colorful fruits and vegetables rich in phytonutrients helps maintain the organs and immune system strong while losing weight," Rosenberg explains.

Another factor just as important as "the eating plan is regular exercise. It increases the metabolic rate, helps burn more calories, build muscles, improve heart and cardiovascular system and relieves stress and frustration," he ends.
