National Convention on the Rights of Children with Disabilities IN the Philippines and in the rest of the world, disabled children are often deprived of the love, affection, care, and attention necessary for them to realize their full potentials. Throughout history, children with disabilities have been denied access to education, adequate health care and rehabilitative services, opportunities for social interaction, and the right to participate in the normal activities of childhood. They are bound to confront forms of social exclusion that represent a denial of their basic right to development or growth.
The publican achievement THE publican, the tax collector of Ancient Rome, has come into his own with the recent report that the cities of Manila and Makati are the top revenue collectors among the 17 Metro Manila local government units.
Culture and national identity CULTURE defines a people’s national identity and expresses a nation’s freedom of belief and expression. It mirrors and shapes our values, beliefs, and aspirations as a people. It is our link to our rich past and remains a useful guide for what is yet to come. For these reasons and more, it is our duty to preserve and conserve our historical and culture heritage.
Have we stopped muddling through? FROM my last Sunday’s column in the Manila Bulletin (05 March 2006), entitled "More Coup Plots, Conspiracies, Threats, Attempts, Etc. To Follow???," the main message to the authorities in Malacañang, Congress, the Judiciary, the AFP and PNP, opposition groups, media, the veterans and civil society in general was: Let us leave the AFP and PNP alone to do their assigned missions under the Constitution and the law, without involving them in any way in the partisan politics and economic oligarchies of this country.
The good Muslim HIGH noon. In an international airport somewhere in the Middle East, an American tourist, Abraham Weinstein, was furious. He was told that his return flight to New York had been cancelled for security reasons. As he looked around helplessly, he saw two men in baggy trousers and ill-fitting jackets, their checkered keffiyah headdresses indicating they were Palestinians. Before he could make a move, one of the men fired two shots into Abraham’s body. Simultaneously, two other men opened fire at the ceiling. As the crowd scattered in panic, the assassins walked casually away. As the last conscious spasm shook Abraham’s body, his senses floated into cold darkness.
Reframing counseling & a vicarious counseling approach (Conclusion) LET us now situate counseling in the classroom while considering it more as a process of helping and growing in the article "The Changing Context of Teacher Education in Larger Society,’’ we teachers are admonished that our responsibility does not end in providing the young generation with knowledge and technical skills they need in meeting the challenges of an electronic and computer age. We also have to help them grow or mature by furnishing them life knowledge and skills. Life knowledge and skills are those variables we can associate with emotional and attitudinal quotients. Our local company technocrats sometimes ignore these quotients. With the speed knowledge and technology is progressing, only the basics of their education most of the time will be of help to those who are now employed. These basics will be enhanced by experience and training at work. Life knowledge and skills would make the difference whether such enhancement will either take place or not; or maybe take place slow or fast. A number of companies abroad particularly in the US do not consider much the degrees earned here; prime consideration is given to experience and skills.

The transfiguration of Jesus JESUS took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And He was transfigured before them, and His clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were conversing with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: One for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified. Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; then from the cloud came a voice, "This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him." Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them.
Older is better ISN’T it weird that everyone wants to live a long time but no one wants to be called old? Despite the reality that we grow old with the passing of each day. Despite the fact that we cannot be young forever. There is one pecullirity of the old that the young often forget. It is the fact that youth knows nothing about being old whereas the old know all about being young. On this basis, older is better. Thus, we should not begrudge growing old. We should age gracefully and graciously. Getting old is a privilege that is not enjoyed by everybody.
