A good start for the tourism industry
PHILIPPINE tourism continues to accelerate in 2006 as revealed recently by the Department of Tourism (DoT). The DoT report noted that a record high 22.1 percent growth in tourist arrivals was posted in January compared to the same period last year. There were 268,818 foreign tourists that visited the Philippines for the first month of the year as against 220,248 in January, 2005. According to DoT, this is the first time that that the country recorded more than 250,000 arrivals in January.

Responsible mining
DURING a meeting with the President last Saturday, a group of bishops made clear that they are not against mining per se. They are for responsible mining. But they voiced serious concerns on mining as it is being practiced today. In the words of the bishops, how do we avoid another Lafayette situation? The President can only agree with them.

IT is very thorough of chief of staff Michael Defensor in planning about the format and place of the dialogue between President Arroyo and the soldiers such that he said he would need more time to finalize the details of the plan in setting the dialogue to clear the air regarding whatever issues that will be leveled against the President by the opposition. Mike Defensor has made it known that despite her being the Commander in Chief, Gloria still goes down to the level of her soldiers in this forthcoming dialogue to seek openly what they are nursing in their heart.
