CARDINAL SANTOS MEDICAL CENTER recently held its first Champions of Excellence Media Series, which aims to educate the general public with the latest medical studies and innovations in relation to present health issues in the country today. The forum, spearheaded by Cardiovascular Institute head Dr. Loewe Go (left), imparted new studies and demographics on Metabolic Syndrome focusing on young adult Filipinos. With him in photo is Dr. Patricia Cheng of CSMC’s Cardiovascular Institute, who discussed the advantages of non-invasive vascular imaging.

HEALTH, BEAUTY AND WELLNESS MONTH AT FESTIVAL SUPERMALL. Festival Supermall presents "Fit & Fabulous", a unique celebration of Beauty and Wellness, for health buffs and fashion-conscious women who simply want to stay in shape. Today, March 11 to 12, expert artists will showcase their creative talents using the human body as canvass for their masterpieces. Likewise, there will be an exhibit of masterworks by renowned body painters Alnor Collantes, Alfred Galvez and Sam Tenaso on March 18 and 19. Meanwhile, from March 18 to 19, the Nestea Green Tea Sanctuary will offer mall patrons free head, back or hand massage complete with soothing music, and a free cup of Nestea Green Tea. Finally, on March 26, Sphere Gym will hold an Aero Marathon for all interested fitness aficionados. Cash prizes and gift certificates will be given to the lucky winners.

MDH OPENS NEW REHABILITATION DEPARTMENT. Manila Doctors Hospital, Manila’s only ISO certified hospital recently inaugurated its new Rehabilitation Department. Patients needing Rehabilitation Medicine treatment now enjoy the spacious and functional treatment areas – from physiatric evaluation to physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. This new facility is at the ground level of the new Doña Salustiaña Medical Tower. SMILE TRAIN USA TO PROVIDE 250 FILIPINO CHILDREN WITH FREE CLEFT LIP PALATE SURGERIES. Smile train is a US-based foundation, as part of its dedication towards helping children born with cleft lip and palate, provides a Cleft Treatment Grant to its partner, Philippine Band of Mercy (PBM). Smile Train undertakes this program globally and always done in partnership with local foundations. This is the fourth grant given to the PBM and has been availed by 788 Filipino children in the first three that were given. Now, another group of 250 Filipino children will be able to take advantage of this service courtesy of Smile Train USA. PBM implements the project and arrange for the surgeries to be undertaken through its accredited Smile Train surgeons and hospitals, namely; Dr. Melanio Cruz Jr. for FEU-Dr. N.R.M.F. Medical Center, De Ocampo Memorial Medical Center, and St. Jude General Hospital; Dr. Hector Santos Jr. for St. Martin de Porres Hospital; Dr. Stanley Kho and Dr. Noel Cruz for Pasig City General Hospital; and Dr. Vitaliano de Galicia for Las Piñas District Hospital.
