We must begin producing ethanol additives now
ONLY have a brief message for our conference. And it is this: It is time that we shift a greater part of our fuel dependence on fossil fuel to ethanol.

Denunciation of the Scribes and Pharisees
Matthew 23:1-12

Remembering Recto
WHEN people walk or drive along C.M.Recto Ave. today, I wonder how many of them know who he was and how he dedicated his life to the Filipino nation. Born in 1890, Recto lived through that crucial epoch when national consciousness rose on the crest of the Philippine Revolution and the First Philippine Republic, only to be cruelly smothered during a savage period of de-Filipinization perpetrated by the American colonial regime. Recto was a product of those turbulent times, so it can be argued his staunch nationalistic policies were the result of a personal quest for de-colonization. In the words of Filipino historian Dr. Renato Constantino: "His [Recto’s] development proved that only the decolonized Filipino is a real Filipino.’’

Saluting military for patriotism
CIRCUMSTANCES have put President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on the spot, and it started from the first time she assumed the presidency.

President Bush courts Asia
PRESIDENT Bush’s quick, five-day swing through Asia, beginning with Afghanistan (unannounced), then India and Pakistan, appeared, on the surface, primarily designed to reverse the US former policy which denied India’s purchase of nuclear technology and clinch the agreement which has been under negotiation since July, 2005, to help India with power for its energy needs. It is both an acknowledgement of the vital importance of access to energy sources for developing countries as well as recognition of the rising importance of Asia in US foreign policy.

Unstoppable smuggling
MUGGLING of various basic and expensive goods and commodities is like illegal logging and jueteng. It is a regular occurrence known to most law enforcers and local officials but only the small fellows get collared and their vessels or "bancas" confiscated but released again and again.

‘Light, more light!’
GMA complained that the Senate was more investigative than legislative; one might grant that she’s not entirely wrong. But with all the issues about governance, it’s rather difficult to have it the other way around.

Unnecessary bellicosity
THE widespread and continuing purges of military dissenters will be the nemesis of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Progress in the countryside
I VISITED Cabanatuan City over the weekend to attend the induction ceremonies of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) Nueva Ecija Chapter headed by Chairperson Joy Galvez Dominado as guest speaker and inducting officer.

Pound of flesh
SEX sells. Sex buys food, clothes, and education for the family. It keeps the economy afloat as the No. 4 contributor to the GDP.
