Nokia introduces compact handwriting smartphone

Nokia introduced the Nokia 6708, the compact business device featuring pen-based touch-screen input and English/simplified Chinese language handwriting recognition. It is a fully integrated smartphone that offers advanced voice features, a large screen, and enough memory to support office and multimedia applications including Personal Information Management and Internet browsing. The Nokia 6708 is expected to be commercially available from 2nd Quarter 2006 in selected Asia Pacific markets.

 

The Nokia 6708 uses a pen-based touch-screen user interface allowing users to quickly write in simplified Chinese text, and conveniently access the phone’s features. The pen input is perfect for writing English and simplified Chinese characters, either by using the full display screen to write in continous strokes or use the virtual keyboard to touch type your messages and data.  The touch screen is 2.66 inches wide, and has been designed to give optimal access to key features and add-on applications.

 

The Nokia 6708 provides an integrated solution to users seeking mobile access to their most important business tools. The phone supports POP3/IMAP4/SMTP email protocols with attachments

The Nokia 6708 also presents impressive multimedia functions helping employees balance work and play with its entertainment features including music player, video player, games, 1.3 mega pixel camera with anti-shaking and multi-shot features.

•Talk time of up to 3 to 6 hours and a standby time of up to 148 to 275 hours

•Touch screen user interface supporting simplified Chinese and English handwriting

•QuickOffice Applications

•Built-in memory of 18 MB SD RAM and 30MB flash

•Hot Swap memory (SD and mini SD) card support of up to 2GB (the maximum card size available)

•Messaging (SMS, MMS, email with attachments)

•Clock, Alarm, PIM

•Multimedia: 1.3 mega pixel camera, MP3, midi, wav, video, speakerphone

•XHTML/HTML browser

•Symbian and Java applications
