The Malabon City government has announced the opening of the search for the "Mutya ng Malabon" in preparation for the twin celebration of the 407th foundation anniversary of the former fishing town and its fifth anniversary as a city.
Mrs. Cynthia Ramos, chairperson of Mutya ng Malabon 2006, said the beauty contest will highlight the yearly celebration and showcase the rich culture and tradition of Malabon.
She said the beauty contest is open to all ladies aged 16 and above, and bona fide residents of their barangays they represents.
A candidate must be 5’ 3" inches tall, with a certification of a good moral character issued by barangay chairmen.
Mayor Canuto Oreta said the celebration will be simple but meaningful and will be held for one month-starting from April 21 (cityhood anniversary) until May 21 which is the founding anniversary of Malabon.
The city has already brought pride to the country when former Mutya ng Malabon Miss Jamie Liz "Sunshine" Castillo of Barangay Tugatog, Malabon, was crowned "Mutya ng Pilipinas 2003." (Ed Mahilum)
