The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it will open next month the bidding process for the manufacture of license plates and stickers of the agency. All interested parties could submit bids.
LTO central office Property Division Chief Engineer Beng Se said the agency will open the bidding next month as LTO’s contract with JGB Enterprises, the current license plates and sticker manufacturer of the agency, will expire in June this year.
Se admitted that the agency has been experiencing a shortage on car plates and stickers because of the unexpected heavy volume of registrants recently, especially license plates for motorcycles.
"Imagine itong first quarter pa lamang umakyat sa 12 percent ang pagtaas ng demand kaya talagang nagkulang ng plaka lalo na sa motorsiklo," he said.
He said in the first quarter of this year, the JGB Enterprises delivered five-million license plates and stickers.
For the second quarter, the LTO made an advance order of eight-million plates and stickers from JGB Enterprises to address the deficiency in car plates and stickers.
LTO district heads nationwide have reportedly been complaining about the shortage of car plates and stickers.
