CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Xavier University student Ailyn Monica Adecer, 18, was supposed to celebrate her birthday yesterday together with her father, a lotto operator.
She took her school notes along when she visited Monday her father, Antonio Adecer, at his lotto outlet on Claro M. Recto Ave., Barangay 26, this city.
But tragedy struck. A masked, armed man barged in the lotto outlet and, without saying anything, shot the elder Adecer who was carrying a bag containing money.
His daughter tried to run away but she was shot by the man with a caliber .38 revolver, police said.
The assailant grabbed the bag containing the money and ran towards Bitan-ag Creek.
Her mother, Agnes Adecer, was shocked upon seeing her husband and daughter bathed with blood at the shooting site.
The elder Adecer remained in critical condition at the Cagayan de Oro Medical Center as yesterday afternoon.
Ailyn was dead on arrival.
Police probers said they have yet to determine the amount of money in the bag. An employee of the Adecers, identified as Jonalyn Pada, said the stolen amount was at least R120,000.
The amount reportedly represented three days of sales by the lotto outlet and some family money.
The police found at the crime scene a caliber .38 revolver that was presumed to have been dropped by the robbber when he was spotted by residents near the Bitan-ag Creek.
Ailyn was supposed to celebrate her 19th birthday today. She was supposed to help her father close the outlet when they were shot.
