Sacred Heart College of Lucena acquires e-learning program
spacer

Sacred Heart College of Lucena gains a powerful ally in e-learning as it acquires an e-learning program from Diwa Learning Systems, one of the country’s trusted educational suppliers, which have been serving schools nationwide for 20 years now.

To make learning more responsive to the needs of the times, Diwa has developed Genyo, a fully integrated e-learning program serving schools and its stakeholders - students, teachers and parents.

Genyo, powered by iDiwa e3 learning, is a comprehensive educational package for high school. It includes a multi-media software that contains Science, Math, English, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan modules, broadband connectivity, a cellphone driven homework helper plus broadcast center, an integrated learning portal and teacher training program.

In a study conducted by Ateneo De Manila University entitled: "Technology in the Academe: Teacher Strategies in Managing Computer Resistance," it was found that teachers, in general, view computer-aided teaching and learning as beneficial, innovative, interactive and efficient. This, despite a good number of them who are still afraid that computers would one day replace them, owing to the fact that only one in seven teachers are computer literate while only two of every 15 administrators are trained in technologies.

One of Genyo’s components, the multi-media software is a lesson plan that is more responsive to the personal style of the teacher and what he sees as most effective in terms of approach for his students. It is like a customizable textbook on the computer. A teacher uses the authoring tool to produce materials and content that would best suit his classes, and still adhere to the curriculum prescribed by DepEd.

An intrinsic benefit of the program is the additional time it gives teachers for themselves and their families. Since the lesson presentation and examinations can be conducted online, there is no more need for teachers to bring home bulky exam sheets and spend a lot of time preparing visual aids.

More schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are getting into the ICT bandwagon. According to Jose Maria Policarpio, Diwa Learning Systems Vice President and an officer of the Philippine E-learning Society, schools are realizing the need to take their school to the future.
