EVEN IN Hong Kong, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is making a killing at the gates.
The upcoming overseas game pitting Talk ‘N Text against Purefoods in Hong Kong is already a certified box office four days before the scheduled March 19 duel at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
The league confirmed that tickets to the first official out of the country game in the Gran Matador Brandy-PBA Philippine Cup had already been sold out.
Talk ‘N Text owner Manny Pangilinan, himself based in the former British Colony most of the time, arranged the match for the benefit of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) based in Hong Kong through his Smart Global, with the support of Magic Sing and Cebu Pacific as official carrier.
"It elates us that the PBA will be playing again before a big Filipino crowd in our second official overseas game. This is only shows how much our kababayans in Hong Kong missed the league and their favorite players a lot," said commissioner Noli Eala.
The expected success to be generated from the Hong Kong game comes in the wake of the big surge in the league’s gate attendance this season.
