CRITERIUM RACING goes to Pampanga this weekend when the third leg of the Philamlife Cycling Search Invitational (CSI) Criterium Race is fired off at the Bayanihan Park, formerly Astro Park, in Angeles City on Saturday.
A banner field is expected to vie for top honors in various divisions, including the centerpiece men’s elite and under-23 class, featuring those who have been part of the RP team, the national pool or have competed in major events both here and abroad.
Keen competition is seen in the 30-lap race with frontrunner Tarlac kickoff leg winner Albert Primero, Oscar Rindole, winner of the second stage in Marikina, and fancied Victor Espiritu locked in a three-way battle for supremacy.
Primero shows the way with 33 points with Rindole and Espiritu not too far behind with 28 and 26 points, respectively, heading into the third leg of the event organized by Treo Sales and Management Corp. and backed by Pagcor, PCSO, Aktivade Thirst Quencher, Monterey, Air21, PhilCycling, Partas and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Action is also expected to be fierce in other categories with Marikina leg winner Bryant Villaroman towing the field in the youth division with 23 points, six points ahead of Tarlac champion Jeffrey Caritativo. Edwin Jarrondo is within striking distance with 14 points.
Former Tour king Rolando Pagnanawon, winner in Marikina, paces the masters division with 42 points, eight ahead of fellow Tour veteran Placido Valdez while Alex Billan is in third with 26 points.
The youth, masters and executive classes will be disputed over 21 laps on the 1.4-km Bayanihan Park.
Registration is ongoing. For details, contact Treo at tels. 241-0415 or 241-0418.
