The Department of Education (DepEd) has scheduled this summer a training for teacher-librarians in public elementary as well as secondary schools in the National Capital Region (NCR).
A DepEd memorandum issued recently by Education acting Secretary Fe Agudo Hidalgo received by NCR education director Dr. Teresita Guzman-Domalanta said the training, in line with DepEd’s "Library Hub Project," will be conducted separately at the schools division offices of Marikina City and Pasig City.
Domalanta said the two-day summer training will be participated in by teacher-librarians from the Metro Manila schools divisions of Manila, Quezon City, Valenzuela City, Las Piñas City, Makati City, Mandaluyong City, Muntinlupa City, Taguig City-Pateros, Malabon City-Navotas, Caloocan City, Pasay City, Pasig City-San Juan, and Marikina City.
According to Domalanta, the summer training specifically seeks to:
1. Orient teacher-participants on the overview of the Library Hub project.
2. Equip the mentor-librarians with reading strategies using the story books of the hub.
3. Introduce some techniques of school reading programs designed to upgrade the reading comprehension competencies of Metro Manila elementary and secondary school children. (TPR)
The NCR DepEd chief reported that Hidalgo’s memorandum also required the participation in the training all local public school principals, English division supervisors, and school division superintendents.(Tony Pe. Rimando)
