THE Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Philippine Judicial Academy, the American Bar Association-Asia Law Initiative, the International Association of Women Judges, and the Philippine Women Judges Association (PWJA) convene the Seminar and Annual Meeting of the members of the PWJA at the historic landmark Manila Hotel today.
With the theme "Capacity Building of the Women in the Judiciary,’’ the twoday Seminar and Annual Meeting will enable the women judges and justices to update themselves on new decisions and pressing concerns in the dispensation of justice.
Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban will deliver a message that is expected to identify the competencies and concerns that women in the judiciary must possess and attend to. Three speakers, Taiwan Taipei District Court Chief Judge Jiin-Fang Lin, International Association of Women Judges Executive Director Joan Winship, and American Bar Association-Asia Law Initiative Resident Advisor Atty. Tresa Lynn Cannady, will provide perspectives coming from a wealth of experience based on their own milieus. A discussion will also be held on forensic evidence in child abuse cases and the grant of notarial commissions under the new rules.
The Annual Meeting will also include a meeting where recognition will be conferred on retiring women judges. A tour of the National Museum will provide a rich cultural ending to the annual affair.
We congratulate the Philippine Women Judges Association, headed by Supreme Court Associate Justice Minita V. ChicoNazario, its other Officers and Members, and wish their Seminar and Annual Meeting success.
