THE NATIONAL Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the country’s oldest athletic league, has pledged to support the Fifth Manila Youth Games (MY Games) on April 2-9 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
NCAA Management Committee chairman Bernie Atienza said they have committed the participation of their junior athletes from Manila in the event, which is expected to showcase the finest athletes aged 17 and under culled out from all over the Big City.
"The NCAA, as part of its tradition of promoting sports development for the youth, fully supports the Manila Youth Games," said Atienza, who is also the athletic director of the College of St. Benilde.
Organizing Manila Sports Council (MASCO) chief Arnold "Ali" Atienza thanked the NCAA Mancom, which is composed of sports directors from various schools competing in the League.
"We would like to extend our deep appreciation to the NCAA Mancom for the support given to our pet program for the city’s youth," said the son of Manila Mayor Lito Atienza. "Through the MY Games, Manila has put emphasis on the role of sports in nation-building that could potentially provide initial steps to producing future sports heroes."
Practically, all 897 barangays in the city, as well as the 130 public and private schools under Manila’s Division of City Schools have also committed support to the endeavor and will be well represented in the Games presented by Converse with support from the Philippine Sports Commission, PAGCOR, San Miguel Corp., SuperFerry, IntrASports, and Concept MOVERS.
