Breakfast Table THE prime minister of South Korea is now a former prime minister: He had to resign for playing golf on a holiday. Not that South Korean officials are forbidden to do what they like on holidays. But playing golf with businessmen (including a character of ill-repute) is frowned upon in a country where the government has learned to live with regular mass demonstrations.
Fanny Aldaba-Lim I WAS rejoicing the other day when I read that the City of Manila had granted the Museo Pambata Foundation a 10-year lease extension to use the historic Elks Club building on Roxas Blvd. for its children’s museum. Although I hadn’t seen Fanny Aldaba-Lim very often, recently I had heard that she was concerned that her wonderful, playful, imaginative, and creative children’s museum, which she founded and funded, might have to give up its building. Then a few days later came the news of Fanny’s death of leukemia at her home here.

Recto’s relevance FOR all we know, this Republic is on the verge of brusque changes. By next June, we might have a prime minister, instead of a president, and a parliament, in lieu of a two-chambered Congress. Yet, frightfully enough, there is no palpable effort to prepare the citizenry for such a traumatic transformation. By now we should be swamped with frantic executive orders and compelling legislation obliging the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to purge its ranks and political parties to shape up. It is also about time that we citizens do our homework; let us begin by reviewing the origin of our political party system (if you can call it that).
Stout-hearted HE description was "the heaviest arsenal of constitutional measures," a massive arms depot, you might say, which President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo used to underline her resolve to clean out the residual threat of destabilization against her government.
Children forever HER pupils call her Teacher Ting. She’s about to finish her masteral thesis, treating ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) with the use of aqua play. There’s something about water: Babies love to splash around in it, reminding them of their time in the womb, and as an obstacle course, it’s fun even as it exercises muscles and limbs.
