One of its attractions both for foreign and local guests are some 450 photos in an exhibit that comes as a vivid portrayal of the war in Leyte in October 1944. The photographic essay covers General Douglas MacArthur’s famous landing in Leyte with his famous words of promise: "I Shall Return!".

Mr. and Mrs. Alejandro Montejo are the famous owners of Hotel Alejandro. This ancestral edifice was constructed for almost a year, from 1831 to 1832.

When war broke up in 1942 during the Japanese invasion, the house served as quarters to displaced families. The Montejo’s were among those who opened their doors to the evacuees mostly from Cebu and Negros, because there was an increase in housing shortage. Soon, the Montejo household became a one family per room affair and both owners realized later that in doing so, the household would turn eventually into a booming hotel business. Despite the shortage of water and lack of electricity during the time, the tenants survived unscathed.

After Dr. Alejandro Montejo died, the heirs have named the hotel in his honor. Their eight children thought it was a fitting tribute to a grand old man.

Today, from a big household to a grand hotel, Hotel Alejandro stands as a 5-storey structure having a total of two Executive Suites, 30 Standard and 20 Deluxe Rooms. The 5th level is the roof deck where parties are mostly held. It can accommodate around 200 persons or guests.

The Commonwealth Hall is the biggest place in the hotel. It can accommodate 250 persons and is frequently a chosen venue for wedding receptions, conferences and the like. For a more private gathering for around 40 persons, the Liberation Room is quite ideal. It is located at the 4th floor of the hotel.

At the ground level is Café Teresa, the popular café that offers a mixture of Filipino, Spanish and American dishes. It could sit 50 guests and provide musical entertainment with top caliber singers.
