Juan de la Cruz has been a loyal Globe Telecom prepaid cellfone card consumer for more than six years. He averages P1,200 a month.

During the past two months, his load purchases declined by half. Soon, he might try using either Smart or Sun.

But before Juan de la Cruz jump ship, Globe sends him information and proposes an offer he probably wont be able to resist. So, he grabs it and trashes any thought of turncoatism.

As a loyal Globe prepaid cellfone card customer, Juan contributes to the telecom firm’s annual revenue. Loosing him, thus, matters.

How did Globe know what Juan de la Cruz was planning to do?

Per se, the people of Globe does not know. It is their servers and computers which have been loaded with the appropriate software applications and programs.

With the help of SAS solutions and software in business intelligence and analytics, Sonny Halili, managing director of SAS Institute (Philippines), Inc., Globe can do advance analysis of consumer behavior and conduct "churn prediction" on who among their pre-paid customers would move out.

Details of the Globe case study was presented by Raul Macatangay, head customer profitablity and management, Globe Telecom at the Business Solutions track of the recently held SAS Forum, the largest business intelligence briefing conducted thus far in Manila.

At the SAS Forum, SAS company executives bared updated details on SAS’s Information Evolution Model to aid companies in assessing how they use information to drive business.

The model outlines how information is managed and utilized as a corporate asset and enables organizations to objectively evaluate their use of information and accurately lay out a roadmap for improvements that optimize business returns.

"By using the Information Evolution Model that SAS is pioneering, enterprises can make more incisive and strategic decisions about their information investments. A structured approach such as IEM allows management to come up with the investment strategy that will have the optimum impact on the organization," said Don Cooper-Williams, director of marketing and alliance, SAS Asia Pacific.

Recently, SAS announced that its intelligence strategy, evidenced by increased demand for SAS Enterprise BI Server and industry-specific solutions, led to record global sales in 2005. Total revenue grew 10 percent from .53 billion to .68 billion, marking 29 consecutive years of revenue growth and profitability.

Closer to home, SAS Philippines grew by more than 40 percent, a consistent achievement from the subsidiary which has grown by five times in the past three years.

"We are maintaining and strengthening our leadership position in the local enterprise business intelligence market through leading technologies and solutions such as the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform," said Halili.

As one of SAS’s high-performing subsidiaries in the Asia Pacific, SAS Philippines was designed by the head office to be the Center of Excellence for Asia and Pacific in order to meet the increasing service requirements of SAS clients in the region.

SAS Philippines is aiming to grow by 50% its headcount this year, and is currently offering training programs to students in order to expand its pool of certified SAS programmers.
