Even though negative reports try to take Jay-R’s focus away from his career, which is sailing smoothly on the recording scene, movies and TV commercials, the Prince of R&B just doesn’t seem to be affected by it. As of late, questions as to whether he really did get a nonshowbiz girl pregnant have been hounding Jay-R but he would always graciously answer it.
"I don’t know how such intrigues affect the fans but for me, wala lang. I understand that gossips are automatic in this territory which is show business. If what they’re saying about me is true, if I really did get somebody pregnant, I would live up to my responsibility. I won’t run away from it or neglect it because we’re talking about a human being here who must be given the chance to live a good life. But it’s not true so it’s not a big deal to me," Jay-R told the Manila Bulletin last Monday at the grand kick-off of the "Colgate Fresh Confidence with Cooling Crystals R1 million Makeover Shopping Spree" promo which was held at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
It’s a good thing that kind of rumor does not affect his long-time girlfriend who, according to Jay-R, is already used to these kinds of intrigues.
"My girlfriend and I have long been working on a long distance relationship since she is based in the US while I’m here because of work," he said.
Instead of paying attention to negative write-ups and reports, Jay-R opts to put his energy into good use. By that, he means writing more interesting songs and producing albums that will be worth everybody’s time to listen.
Currently out in the market is JayR’s self-titled 18-track album under Universal Records which has the Billy Joel original, "Just the Way You Are" as carrier single. This song was rearranged to fit Jay-R’s slow R&B tone and sensually sexy mood.
Another track in the album which is fast reaching the success that Jay-R’s other songs, namely "Bakit Pa Ba" and "Kung Mahal Mo Siya," have attained is the Vehnee Saturno composition entitled "Ngayo’y Narito."
"I wrote 60 percent of the songs in this album. The other songs were written by Jay Durias, Vehnee Saturno, Eric Jackson, and Jason Edmunds, the nephew of Babyface. I have a collaboration with ‘Star In a Million’ champ Kris Lawrence. In this album I also have a duet with actress singer Samantha Mumba," shared Jay-R.
Through his US-based partner Ray Brown, Jay-R has met a lot of bigwigs in the American music industry with whom he has collaborated for his fourth album. In the coming days, Jay-R will be going around malls and bars to promote the songs in his current album.
Another interesting cut inclusive in this album, which Jay-R has been constantly performing these days, is the theme song of the "Colgate Make You Smile" TV commercial which Jay-R appeared in with Shaina Magdayao.
On television, Jay-R can be seen daily on the GMA 7 fantaserye "Encantadia" and the afternoon variety show "SOP" every Sunday.
