An interview with God

Nelly F Villafuerte

NOBODY really has the exact figures of the number of computers and networks that make up the worldwide Net (shortcut term for the Internet). The Internet does not refer to a single network but a combination of various private networks that are joined at certain exchange points throughout the world. Some say that there are more than 30,000 networks linking about 10 million computers that are being used by millions of people based in various countries. The marvelous feature of the Internet is that nobody really controls it; nobody really owns it; and nobody can, at a click, turn the Internet off. No wonder the Internet is making a million things possible that were not even conceivable in earlier technologies. All because the Internet has the awesome capability to connect practically every person to every other person anywhere in the world. Making the Internet probably the most revolutionary mechanism for exchanging information in the history of communication technology. Including spreading the Gospel as well as other materials that strengthens our faith in our Lord God – with just with a click of the mouse.

Some years ago, an anonymous author uploaded on the Internet the now famous poem entitled "An Interview With God." To this day, people are still talking about it. Touching lives. Let me share again the words of this poem for the benefit of those who have not heard about it:

An interview with God

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

"So, you would like to interview Me?" God asked.

"If You have the time," I said.

God smiled. "My time is eternity; what questions do you have in mind to ask Me?"

"What surprises You most about humankind?"

God answered:

"That they get bored with childhood – they rush to grow up and then long to be children again.

"That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.

"That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live neither in the present nor the future.

"That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had never lived . . ."

God’s hands took mine and we were silent for a while and then I asked . . .

"As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons You want Your children to learn?"

God replied with a smile:

"To learn that they cannot make anyone love them. What they can do is to let themselves be loved.

"To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their lives, but who they have in their lives.

"To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.

"To learn that a rich person is not the one who has the most but is one who needs the least.

To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in persons one loves, and that it may take many years to heal them.

"To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.

"To learn that there are persons who love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express or show their feelings.

"To learn that money can buy everything but happiness.

"To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it very differently.

"To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by others, but that they must also forgive themselves. And to learn that I am here – always."

Hopefully, this article will encourage us to know more about our Lord God. By reading His Living Word – the Holy Bible. The world’s best seller put together in a period of about 1,600 years covering 60 generations participated by more than 40 authors from various backgrounds writing in various styles on hundreds of controversial varied happenings at various times in various places, in three continents (Asia, Europe, and Africa) under various moods and at various times in various languages. There is a coherent plot and storyline in the Holy Bible. It centers on its main character: GOD.

Not many know that there is a verse in the Bible that says. "I (God) am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born." (Isaiah 44:2a). This means that there is a God who made us for a reason and our lives have profound meaning. We discover that meaning and purpose only when we make God the reference point of our lives. The Bible says that it is God who directs the lives of His creatures; everyone’s life is in His hands (Job 12:10). We exist only because God wills us to exist. We were made by God and until we understand this, life will never make sense. Because without God, life makes no sense. In real life, we can interview God on a regular basic by reading daily the Holy Bible – the Word of God. Contrary to what many believe, the Holy Bible is not just a book that contains the Word of God. It is the Word of God.
