VIGAN CITY – Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson is offering R50,000 as reward to informants who could give information on the killers and masterminds in the assassination of a councilor of Bantay town last week.
Governor Singson also threatened to ask high police authorities to relieve all the members of Bantay police force if they cannot solve soon the killing.
Bantay Councilor Paul Anthony Benito Lucero, 41, was killed last week in a broad-daylight shooting by motorcycle-riding gunmen on the national highway in front of the Bantay West Central School at Zone 6, Bantay.
Lucero, who was driving his car, had just dropped his wife, Emma Bello Lucero, a teacher at the elementary school, when he was gunned down.
The two gunmen approached him from behind fired at him at close range.
Singson said that he will ask Ilocos Sur Police Director George Tolentino Regis to create a task force to investigate the murder of Lucero.
Earlier, Regis relieved right after the shooting incident Bantay town police chief Senior Inspector Maximo Taclas. This is to give way to a fair and speedy investigation of the murder.
Supt. Ricardo Dayag, who was spearheading the investigation of the killing, replaced Taclas.
Emma, the wife of the councilor, has appealed to the witnesses to come out in the open and help in the efforts to solve the crime.
The investigators have no clue yet on the identities of the killers as well as the motive.
