GLENN AGUILAR, anchor and biggest draw of the defending champion and powerhouse Revtex Motocross Team, plunged into action in the FIMUAM 2006 Motocross Masters of Asia at the Puerto Princesa City motocross racetrack yesterday as the overwhelming favorite and the rider to beat.

Asia’s 2004 champion and the country’s only nine-time Rider of the Year awardee showed his readiness against the region’s big guns after sweeping the Pro Open and 125 divisions of the 2006 Supercross International Championship Series in Iloilo City using a brand new bike and his time-tested Revtex oil.

"Those victories are the perfect proofs that I am ready to take on the challenge being posed by Asia’s top riders," said Aguilar, who together with his Revtex teammate Kenneth San Andres, will be carrying the country’s colors in the moto festival, which is actually the second stop of the FIM Asian Motocross Championships. It is sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA).

Team Revtex is the defending champion in the Asian Nations Cup, the award given to the region’s best motocross-playing nation.

"It will be tough. Anyone from these world-class racers can pull off a victory at any given time. But nothing can match the feeling of displaying your skills right before your kabayayans. Plus, I have a brand new KTM250cc 2006 model, and a Revtex oil that complements its awesome power. I know I have the winning formula on my side," said Aguilar, who only recently was awarded as the Golden Wheel’s International Driver of the Year.

Expected to give give Aguilar a tough time are world-class riders from the Asia-Pacific, namely James Robinson of New Zealand, China’s Shi Lok and Shi Yu Men, Tadakazu Otsuka of Japan, Jye Harvey of Australia, Indonesia’s Aep Dadang and Denny Orlando and defending champion Arnon "Turbo" Theplib of Thailand. Indonesian stalwarts Aldi Lazaroni and Adi Aprian; Nic Yasuhiro of Guam; Floyd de la Cruz and Ellery Cruz of Saipan; Gayan Sandaruwan of Sri Lanka and Hongkong’s Sean Hewett will also be seeing action.

Aguilar is coming off a swashbuckling show in the Supercross, where he decided to use a brand new bike and earned outstanding results as he ruled both the first and second motos of the premier Pro Open in style, fending off the challenge of overall second placer and Jovy Saulog and Bebet dela Cruz, with Robinson nowhere near the leaders.

The Revtex Rocket was at his meanest in the second heat of the Pro Open, where he was able to scoot away from the pursuing pack, led by Saulog, by as much as half a lap.

"I gambled with my new KTM250 against my rivals’ stronger 450cc bikes and it paid off," said Aguilar.

"Revtex oil enabled my racing machine to perfectly get into the groove, and the results were those awesome Pro Open and 125 sweeps."
