By nick giongco

CEBU CITY — Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) executive Eric Gomez said on Saturday that “in America, a done deal is not the same as a signed contract.”

Gomez was obviously referring to speculations and even news reports concerning the status of the proposed match in Manila between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar Larios.

"The day before yesterday, (the fight) was on and then yesterday it was off. But today (Saturday), I received a call (from the US today) saying it’s on and we (Golden Boy Promotions) should expect a copy of the fight contract in two or three days," said Gomez at the lobby of the Waterfront Hotel-Lahug while in the company of another GBP official, matchmaker Samspon Lewkowicz and respected local boxing men Sammy Gello-ani and Wakee Salud.

"People representing Pacquiao are in the process of finalizing the contents of the contract," said Gomez.

Boxing industry sources say the date for the Pacquiao-Larios bout at 130 lbs will be known on Monday. The proposed date for the highly-anticipated match is June 24 although local organizers are also looking on a July 2 date.

Gomez said to prepare for Pacquiao, Larios is seriously considering to go to Japan to train.

"That’s what I heard from him before I came over here and he really wants this fight (with Pacquiao)," added Gomez.

Gomez and Lewkowicz are in the country after formalizing GBP’s partnership with the ALA Boxing Club of the revered Tony Aldeguer. Under the agreement, fighters from the Queen City under the banner of Aldeguer will be given chances to showcase their wares on American soil.

First on GBP’s agenda is Rey "Boom Boom"Bautista, the undefeated bantamweight who sees action in the undercard of the May 20 headliner featuring Marco Antonio Barrera at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

GBP is owned by Oscar De La Hoya.
