The eight-nation Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries will become a member of the Geneva–based International Motorcycle Manufactures Association (IMMA) on April 1.
Through the IMMA, motorcycle manufacturers in Asia, including Filipino industry players, will get more involved in the process of crafting technical regulations and other measures affecting the industry at the world level.
IMMA serves as the "voice" of the industry in the United Nations and World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations.
"With this membership, FAMI has moved on from being an Asian-wide association into a player in the global motorcycle stage," said FAMI president Dato Syed Mohammed Aidid.
IMMA president Timothy Hoelter said FAMI’s membership is part of the association’s efforts to bring together the motorcycle industries from every corner of the world in order to strengthen and promote the common good of the industry for all members.
He noted that FAMI’s entry into IMMA makes IMMA a truly global organization as Asia is now the center of the global motorcycle industry and has been exhibiting tremendous growth.
Singapore-based FAMI is a representative organization for eight motorcycle industries in Asia including the Philippines, India, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
In preparation for its new active role in the global industry, FAMI has reorganized its technical committee so it could actively be involved in the process of establishing technical harmonization in the worldwide motorcycle industry.
