Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested two suspected drug pushers yesterday when they raided three alleged shabu dens along Tramo St. in Pasay City where they recovered some 60 grams of shabu and P500,000 in drug money with the help of sniffing dogs.
Senior Supt. Abe Lemos, chief of the PDEA National Capital Region (NCR) office, identified the arrested suspects as Paquito Bonus and Paquito Quijante.
Another suspected drug trafficker, who was identified by police authorities as Archie "Nonoy" Navarette, managed to escape when PDEA agents arrived at the scene.
According to Lemos, they used two K-9 sniff dogs in locating shabu packages hidden in three houses they raided on Tramo corner Buendia St. in Pasay City.
The PDEA agents, backed up by other police units, conducted the raid at about 12 noon.
When they found a vault, one of the two K-9 dogs sat in front of it, indicating that there may be illegal drugs hidden inside.
To verify, they led the other K-9 dog to the vault. The dog also sat in front of vault.
However, when the PDEA agents opened the vault, they did not find any shabu but recovered R500,000 in cash instead, Lemos said.
"The K-9s’ behavior might indicate that they (drug suspects) used to store shabu inside the vault and there were still traces of drug residues inside," Lemos said.
The PDEA officer said they took custody of the money and will subject it to laboratory tests at the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Service in Camp Crame in Quezon City for possible traces of shabu.
Lemos said the 60 grams of shabu were found hidden in other locations inside the three raided houses.
PDEA authorities said the raid was conducted based on search warrants issued by Judge Antonio Eugenio and Judge Felixberto Olalia of the Manila Regional Trial Court.
