A decade of quality education and service

Private participation in education aimed at producing excellent and globally competitive graduates is a most welcome development. Imbued with the mission to provide quality education, WEST BAY COLLEGES, INC. formally opened its doors to the first batch of 50 students in School Year 1996-1997 after the permits to offer six programs were approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The West Bay Colleges, Inc. Main
Campus at the Cajiles Compound,
Ilaya Street,  Alabang, Muntinlupa
City
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Strategically located on the western shore of Laguna de Bay in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, WBC is at the crossroads to Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon or CALABARZON and, as such, it is accessible to students from southern Luzon and the cities of Las Piñas, Parañaque, Taguig, Makati, Pasay and Pasig.

With Bachelors of Science in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering as its flagship courses, the college operates on full speed in its quest for excellence. Its other courses are B.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Business Administration, Computer Science and Associate in Computer Secretarial.Early classes were held at Pauline Building 1 on the Wawa Campus along Bunye Street. Later, in October 1996, the groundbreaking for Pauline Bldg. 2 was held.

In SY 1997-1998, the increase in the number of students prompted the college to open eight additional programs, namely, Bachelors of Science in Electronics and Communications, Computer, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Customs Administration, Accountancy and Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communication and Psychology.

In November 1997, the College transferred to Pauline Bldg. 2 in the Ilaya Campus. The rooftop of the 7th floor on the north end of the ship-shaped building houses the mock bridge and state-of-the-art maritime equipment, including the original mast of M/V Silva, and other equipment from a real ship-ARPA, radars, magnetic compasses, Poseidon Radar, and Kongsberg Simulators, all of which set WBC apart from many other maritime schools in state-of-the-art training. Computers connected to the Internet take the students along the global highway, keeping them abreast with the latest in shipping technology.

The college has also a machine shop with various equipment and tools. This served as an excellent venue for the hands-on training of marine engineering students.

As more students enrolled, more facilities, laboratories and required equipment for the other courses were put in place. The chemistry and physics laboratories are on the second floor while the computer and engineering laboratories are on the third floor of Pauline Bldg. 2. Pauline Bldg. 1, where the West Bay Café is located, serves as the HRM faculty.

The succeeding years were fruitful ones for the college. In the summer of 1999, the College earned CHED recognition for its maritime courses and passed the STCW Convention Standards. The recognition of all the other courses offered in SY 1996-1997 followed.

ISO 9001:2000 CERTIFIED

True to its mission and vision, the College submitted itself to the process of accreditation to the much-coveted international certification standards and earned the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Quality System Certificate for conformity to the Quality System Standard ISO 9001:1994 and the DNV Management Systems Certificate under the provisions of the DNV "Rules for Maritime Academies" on March 1, 2000. Furthermore, it gained international prestige for being included in the Compedium List of Maritime Schools all over the world.

Soon after, on March 30, 2000, the College held its First Commencement Exercises. Since then, the college annually churns out graduates in various disciplines, most of whom are now gainfully employed professionals in various business enterprises and industries. The number of maritime graduates on board sea-going vessels is also steadily growing.

In SY 2001-2002, in its desire to expand its services, the College started offering TESDA-TVET courses, namely Seafarer Deck and Engine Ratings; Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Operation; and Marine Engineering Technology course. The Caregiver and Nursing Assistant Courses were offered in SY 2002-2003.

For strictly implementing its quality system, West Bay College was granted College-wide DNV ISO 9001:2000 in 2004. All the academic programs, including TVET courses and Assessment Center are covered by the certification. WBC is one of the very few colleges in the country today that is fully-certified.
