FOLLOWING THE successful staging of 60th annual National Student Basketball Championship in the Bicol Region, the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) is now busy with the preparation for the 5th Asian University Basketball Championship in the Bicol Region.
Camarines Norte Provincial Governor Jesus Typoco, who played host to the 60th NSBC, already signified intentions of hosting the 5th AUBC in Daet City.
Governor Typoco, through the BAP Regional Director Julian Lavadia and BAP Provincial Commissioner Dr. Abundio Palencia, have already informed the Asian University Basketball Federation Chairman Graham C. Lim regarding their bid.
Part of the agreement is the preparation of accommodations for the participating teams from China, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan.
"Daet City is ready for international sporting events, being a convenient venue where foreigners and tourists can enjoy the white beaches, wonderful seashores and tourist spots we have in Daet," the Governor said.
AUBF Honorary Chairman is Dr. Carl Men Ky Ching, presently the FIBA President with members from China’s Lu Lian Jia, Thailand’s Dr. Pratoom, Chinese-Taipei’s Stephen Chen, Korea’s Shin Dong Pa and Park Hyun Mo, and Indonesia’s Ekodjatmiko Sukarso.
The 5th Asian University competition is slated sometime middle of June but organizers are still looking for other provinces or cities as host.
"That’s because we are looking for a more convenient venue for the foreign teams to participate with less travel around the ports of entry to the Philippines.
Other possible provinces are Cebu City and Tagbilaran City of Bohol. Three collegiate men’s teams which qualified to the AUBC are West Negros College, University of Perpetual Help of Rizal and National University.
