BATANES The islands of Batanes are a complete mystery to most Filipinos. It is a unique destination, isolated and stark, open compared to the bleak Scottish highlands, even Ireland, or New Zealand.
As far as distant thoughts, Batanes lies at the northernmost tip of the Philippines composed of three major islands namely, Batan, Sabtang and Itbayat and seven islets, among them is Amianan, which is within kissing distance of Formosa in Taiwan. The climate in Batanes is several degrees cooler, but the winds that lash the islands in typhoon and monsoon months can be cruel. The islands lie virtually unprotected from the elements.
DoT braces industry for Japanese inflow The Department of Tourism (DoT) is bracing the industry for the expected influx of Japanese tourists, which are expected to top last year’s total of 400,000.
